Parabens – What are they?
June 8th 2009
Commercial soap and many other commercial beauty products as well, contain parabens. There is a lot of hoopla over parabens. What exactly is a paraben? Parabens are a synthetic preservative and have been found to mimic estrogen.
Many people believe that they are a possible trigger for cancer, especially breast cancer. (Remember: 60% of what you put ON your skin is absorbed into your skin!) ‘The FDA claims these are ‘safe’ at the moment. We could do a whole article on things that they said were safe over the years and actually weren’t…but I won’t go into all that here. Check the list of ingredients on any cosmetic or body product. Anything ending in the word ‘paraben’ means it contains parabens. (Here are a few as an example: Methylparaben, proplyparaben, isopropylparaben, isobutylparaben, butylparaben, sodium butylparaben)
Personally, I do not use containing parabens on my body. I’d rather just take the ‘safe road’. *And I also do not SELL anything with parabens in it. If I wouldn’t use it on my skin, I certainly wouldn’t expect you to use it on yours.
