Read labels! Natural is best. Avoid the rest.

Hands down the best way to clean and nourish your skin is with natural ingredients.  Sixty percent of what you slather on your skin every day is actually absorbed into your skin!  Check the ingredient labels on your skin care products

What pretty color is your product?  How does it get it’s color?  Synthetic colors will be labeled as FD&C or D&C, followed by a color and a number. Example: FD&C Red No. 8 / D&C Green No. 5.   Synthetic colors are believed to be cancer-causing agents.   (Remember the big hoo-ha over the red dye many years ago?)

Anything with parabens in the name is not a good choice for you to be putting on your skin.  We’ve covered this in an earlier post about parabens.

After the dreaded parabens, one of the first ingredients you may see on your label is imidazolidinyl Urea (or Diazolidinyl Urea).  This is a preservative which has been established as the primary cause of dermatitis by the American Academy of Dermatology.   Commonly listed as Germall II and Germall 115.  (Germall 115 releases formaldehyde).

Petrolatum.  This is mineral oil jelly (which causes skin photo-sensitivity among other things).  The body has it’s own way of moisturizing itself naturally.  petrolatum interferes with this natural system which leads to dry and chapped skin.

Now look at the ingredient label on Aventine Hill’s natural products.   You’ll see things like rose hips, oatmeal, chamomile, cocoa, lemongrass, peppermint, apricot, banana, yogurt, coconut, natural clays.  This long list goes on and on for our certified organics and beautiful botanicals!

Our grains are actually so gentle that they can be used daily!  Aventine’s grains are not only cleansing but in just one treatment you are also nourishing, toning, exfoliating, detoxing and moisturizing your skin!  Very rich in vitamins and minerals and 100% natural.   In addition to our grains, we have 100% natural bath teas , bath salts and  clay facial masks.

And as for colors, everytime you see a product on Aventine Hill’s site that has any color to it, please know these are natural colorants.  Never using synthetic dyes, we use natural products for a spark of color.  Such as pink kaolin clay or any host of natural botanicals to achieve our desired color.
